There’s quite the laundry list which link Chick-fil-A to anti-LGBTQ/discriminatory beliefs.
Here are some facts: In 2012 the company claimed it would “leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government.” Chick-fil-A however contradicted this by using it’s charitable foundations to donate to several anti-LGBTQ groups annually. One of these donations included a gift of over $1,600,000 to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which is a religious organization requiring employees to refrain from “homosexual acts”.
Saturday, during a Cincinnati Cyclones game, several protestors snuck “Chick-fil-A Is Anti-Gay” signs onto the companies fast food themed zamboni. The plan was executed by concealing the anti-Chick-fil-A signs underneath a “Happy Birthday” message.
In an official statement released afterwards, the Cyclones denounced the actions of the protestors.
“During the first intermission a group of protestors riding the Chick-fil-A Fan Zam displayed unacceptable messaging that was hidden inside of a birthday sign,” said a spokesman for the Cyclones. “The Cincinnati Cyclones & U.S. Bank Arena do not condone this type of behavior or the messaging expressed. These actions do not align with the family-friendly atmosphere that we aim to provide. Chick-fil-A has been a wonderful partner and we are thankful for their on-going support. The offending parties have been removed from the game and we apologize to anyone that may have been offended by these actions.”
The seven protesters were threatened with trespassing charges and ordered to vacate the arena, never to return. It’s quite the scene as there’s a Chick-fil-A mascot waiving cheerfully to the crowd and completely oblivious to what’s going on.
