Uninterrupted, an athlete focused media platform started by LeBron James, has recently entered into a content deal with streaming video subscription service DAZN. The first piece of this content deal is a documentary series titled “40 Days”, about the buildup to the highly anticipated middleweight unification bout between Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 4th.
Maverick Carter, Uninterrupted CEO, was in NYC Monday evening to premiere the first two episodes of “40 Days” and participate in a brief q+a with an intimate group. Following the premiere episode, Carter was asked about how he got his start and realized he wanted to be a business man. “I’m not a businessman,” Carter said. “I love telling stories. I’m a story teller. That’s what I love to do and always wanted to do.”
With his Uninterrupted platform, Carter is allowing athletes to be the drivers in telling their own stories. A self admitted lover of the “fight game”, Carter believes the human part of the journey is more rich and interesting than the athlete part. His hope is that this partnership will allow Uninterrupted to reach a new audience of global boxing fans that want to see another side to these athletes that has yet to be shown.
“40 Days” has a distinctive “24/7” feel to it. The popular HBO Sports series set the trend in giving a behind the scenes look at athletes preparing and leading up to a big moment. There is also a “30 For 30” vibe. The ESPN property raised the bar as it related to filmmaking and storytelling. DAZN’s executive chairman is former ESPN head man, John Skipper and the sports media startup has been advised by Jamie Horowitz who used to work at ESPN and Fox, so the connections are everywhere.
