Jussie Smollett’s 16 felony charges for filing a false police report in staging his own hate crime shocked everyone when they were dropped. While it looks like Smollett is definitely about to be off the hook now, the State’s Attorney decision to drop these charges could come to bite R. Kelly, according to Kelly’s attorney Steven Greenburg.
Greenburg told TMZ “I think it makes it more difficult for a friendly disposition because they’re going to be extremely reluctant to admit they brought these cases with scant evidence or that there are any other problems.”
Greenburg thinks that State Attorney Kim Foxx views trying to prosecute R. Kelly as making up to the public for letting Smollett become free of any charges. Greenburg also requested to see all communication between Foxx and attorney Michael Avenatti. Avenatti has been coming out about having sex tapes that Kelly made over the last three decade with underage girls. Avenatti was recently indicted on fraud on extortion charges after trying to expose Nike for improper relationships with high school and college basketball players.
Greenburg is also pointing out that Avenatti’s relationship with Foxx is a problem. He thinks that Avenatti “manipulated” her into being against Kelly. Avenatti has since denied that claim.
“[Greenberg] is now trying to distract attention away from the clear guilt of his client by raising bogus arguments about me and Kim Foxx. The evidence is the evidence. Multiple witnesses/tapes, plus DNA. R Kelly will be convicted for his sexual abuse of girls.”
Everyone sees the signs of R. Kelly being guilty. It’ll be a shocker if he beats this case like he did the child pornography one in 2008. Hopefully he won’t get off so easily the way Smollett did.
