Saying today has been active is a massive understatement.
The Los Angeles Lakers first off “parted ways” with head coach Luke Walton. We then got news that the Kings have requested an interview with Luke Walton.
As expected, source tells @TheAthletic that Kings GM Vlade Divac will now reach out to Luke Walton to schedule an interview now that his Lakers days are done. As I reported yesterday, Walton is Divac's first choice for this job.

This isn’t surprising at all. News earlier this week suggested that the Kings would be interested in Walton after getting rid of Dave Joerger. Joerger, who led the Kings to their best season since 2006, caught heat for not playing the Kings’ talented young players enough. Even playing veterans, who would be best served as development chips for any young talent on a rebuilding team, way more than the young talent.
This also isn’t a smart move on Divac’s part. I don’t know if the firing of Joerger is a showing of who’s boss, but it isn’t a good one if it is.
Plus, Walton hasn’t shown he can lead a team with young talent down the right path. His mistake of not playing Lonzo Ball enough had plenty Lakers fans upset.
If this all goes down, we’ll see how it plays out. Hope for the best in any situation, but this just doesn’t look promising.
