Russell Wilson and the Seahawks got it done.
After a self-imposed deadline of April 15th, by Wilson, the team and the Super Bowl winning quarterback come together on a new monster contract extension.
During the wee hours of Tuesday morning the Seattle Seahawks made Wilson the highest paid quarterback in the NFL, surpassing Aaron Rodgers.
Wilson reached an agreement on a four-year, $140 million extension that includes $65 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The contract extension will see Wilson stay with Seattle through his age-35 season and locks in one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL for the foreseeable future.
Wilson’s new deal also break Rodgers’ record for a signing bonus which was $57.5 million, Wilson’s comes in at $65 million.
In addition, Wilson will make an average of $35 million per season with the Seahawks.
There had been rumors that Wilson wanted to play elsewhere, including the New York Giants, but at the end of the day, he will be a Seahawk for life.
Naturally it was a long day for Wilson and wife Ciara.
After getting the contract done, Wilson and Ciara took to Twitter to celebrate their staying in Seattle.
Wilson saying,
“Hey Seattle, we got a deal. Go Hawks. But I’ma see y’all in the morning. Time for y’all to go to bed.”
