On May 12, the Mavs’ Kristaps Porzingis was at a nightclub in his home country of Latvia when he ran into a group of Russian men who beat up him pretty good with the reason supposedly being that he left the Knicks. Technically, he didn’t leave but instead was traded.
The Mavs have wrapped up and their investigation into the incident and according to TMZ Sports, they reached the conclusion that he was “in the wrong place at the wrong time,” which Porzingis told the team. Porzingis was originally seen leaving the club with a bloodied face but was walking on his own power. As far as reports of him suffering a broken hand in the brawl, the Dallas Morning News reported that a team source said that it’s not true and no damage was done.
Porzingis didn’t play for the Knicks in the 2018-19 season due to a major knee injury he suffered in 2017-18. Once he is able to return this fall, he will have another star teammate to pair up with in Rookie of the Year candidate Luka Doncic.
