Zion Williamson will be the number one pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
That much is for certain.
The question of if he truly wants to play for the New Orleans Pelicans has been up for debate since they won the lottery on Tuesday night.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Williamson has not signed with an agent or shoe company.
That is significant because it could’ve opened up a possible return to Duke if Williamson didn’t want to play for the Pelicans.
Well Wednesday morning, Zion Williamson’s step-father, Lee Anderson, put talks of a return to Duke to bed for the superstar.
Appearing on Off The Bench Radio in Baton Rouge Wednesday morning, Anderson said,
…”[Zion is] excited about the prospect of getting down there and getting settled [in New Orleans].
Anderson then addresses rumors if Zion considered returning to Duke by saying,
”…[it] is not something that we have even considered.”
Yes, technically Williamson could have returned to Duke if the Pelicans was a place he truly didn’t want to play.
But a return would have meant possibly putting himself at risk for injury and furthermore put millions of dollars in jeopardy for his financial future.
So Williamson will go to New Orleans and become the new face of their franchise.
His decision shouldn’t surprise many, but the idea of him actually going back to Duke was an intriguing one.
