Last week, Dallas rapper Asian Doll tweeted out that she and Megan Thee Stallion write their own raps all while tagging Megan in it. Megan liked the tweet and others female rappers thought the shoe fit. That included Yung Miami from City Girls clapping back and now, Cardi B.
Megan recently joined Sway In The Morning and discussed the ghostwriting situation in hip-hop right now. She feels that if you’re a rapper that wants to be known for bars, then you have no business using ghost writers. If you’re just an entertainer who who wants to get a buzz going, then it’s all good.
“I think that writing is super important if you want to be that person known for your bars and known as an actual ‘rapper-rapper.’ If that’s something that’s important to you then, hell yeah, you need to be writing,” said Megan.
“But if you’re an entertainer and you’re somebody that’s just getting the party going, I don’t think it matters as long as the people are listening to it and they’re rocking with it. You’re just making feel-good music. So if it took ten of y’all to put the song together [and] the song came out live, that’s y’all business.”
Cardi recently took to Twitter to address what she thought was a shot by Megan towards her and other rappers who don’t write their own raps. She said she writes most of her music but she does get help with the hooks on them.
“I wrote plenty of songs on my album specially my mixtape,” said Cardi. “Ya just flip shit and ya want to believe the fuck shit so bad but EAT IT UP BITCH!”
Cardi definitely took this to the heart. I think she knows that Megan is on her level now. It can’t be denied that Megan’s buzz has been really crazy over the past two months. “Big Ole Freak” is a Billboard charting hit and her “Fever” album got the approval of many.
