After 10 years in the NBA Darren Collison writes to ESPN The Undefeated he is retiring to help the less fortunate through his fate.
In the letter Collison said he love the game of basketball but his family and his faith means more to him. The joy he feels in volunteering is unmatched. In the letter Collison also said focusing in on the game of basketball took away from the other things he want to do.
Collison also thanked his teammates and the players he played against in his career
I’m also appreciative of the great friendships that I have earned from my teammates, coaches, and front-office personnel that I will treasure for a lifetime. Players such as Victor Oladipo, Russell Westbrook, DeMarcus Cousins, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, Dwyane Wade, and LeBron James who had a major impact on me competing at the highest level.
It shocking to see Collison retire because he is 31 years old and he is going to leave some money on the table.
Adrain Wojnarowski reports Collison on target to secure a $10-12M annual salary in free agency.
Collison average 12.5 points and 5.0 assist in his career. He was also NBA All-Rookie first team in 2010.
