Back in March, R. Kelly had a huge meltdown during his interview with CBS’ Gayle King. He was questioned about his allegations of sexual assault with underage girls over the years. He’s facing 10 counts of aggravated sexual assault and recently got 11 additional counts added for sex with another underage girl.
During the interview with King, Kelly turned into memes after he said likes like “I’m fighting for my f*cking life right now” and “Use your common sense.” For King though, the interview ended up being one of the biggest breakthrough points of her career. According to The Jasmine Brand, King supposedly got an $11 million extension at CBS.
Prior to the interview, King’s two-year contract was about to expire. She said that she didn’t plan anything to get an extension but the timing was just that good.
“It’s not like I planned it — like, ‘I’m in contract negotiations, I need to try to do something here.’ It didn’t work like that. But I am not naive. It couldn’t have come at a better time for me. It’s just one of those things. Thank you, Jesus, whoever that is.”
King did an amazing job handling the interview with Kelly and handled the situations well when he lost his composure over the course of the interview. She brought huge ratings to CBS with that and she deserves any big payday that she gets.
