R. Kelly has been having child support issues for years when it comes to ex-wife Drea Kelly. He’s legally obligated to pay her $21k per month since 2009. This past March, he was arrested after failing to pay over $161,000 child support. Recently, he’s been struggling to come up with $32k in back child support in which Drea called for a judge to set a strict deadline for him to pay up.
Now, R. Kelly finally paid up the $32k that’s supposed to go towards his daughter Buku Abi and her college expenses. According to TMZ, his attorney, Steven Greenberg, says that not one more cent is due. Now, he will have to come up with $21k for July.
Greenberg says R. Kelly was likely able to pay the $32k due to royalties from his music. Greenberg added that there should be no more problems being able to pay off child support moving forward as Drea will get her money. His crisis manager, Darrell Johnson, noted that he’s working on getting Kelly more paid performances so these payments won’t be an issue in the future.
Kelly is also dealing with other legal issues such as his 10 counts of aggravated sexual assault back in February involving four underage girls. 11 additional counts were added involving another underage girl at the time. Prosecutors in his home state of Illinois are also investigating an alleged prostitution ring ran by him.
