Chris “Beanie” Wells had a prolific college career as a running back at Ohio State University and a 1,000-yard rushing season with the Arizona Cardinals. Now he is dealing with the aftermath of the murder of his older brother, Joel “Joey” Wells.
According to 247Sports, Wells was shot in East Akron on Thursday morning. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 31-year-old man lying in a driveway with a gunshot wound to the head. The man has pronounced dead on the scene and not long afterward; family members identified the man as Joey Wells.
As of this time, police have not identified any suspects. Beanie told News 5 Cleveland that he would be offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of his brother’s shooter. The Summit County Crime Stoppers is also offering a $5,000 reward for any information that helps identify the murder as well.
