Eight-time all-star, Dwight Howard, once considered the future of the NBA, has finally learned what it is to have the “mamba mentality”. Speaking of Mamba, the originator Lakers Legend Kobe Bryant, once played together with Howard during the 2012-2013 season. And the two stars never got along. In an interview with Sam Amick Mr. Bryant went on to say where the dislike for one another started.
It took a little more than half a decade for Howard to finally understand what the Black Mamba was trying to get him to realize. He even thanked Kobe. In an interview with Kristine Leahy, recalled a game between the Lakers and Houston, the team that Howard was playing for at the time. Howard said Bryant called him “soft” and later challenged Howard, saying “try me.” Howard hated Bryant every since.
Now, in the twilight of his career and having booty surgery, the 33 year old Howard, grasps the gist of what the Mamba was saying. He never revealed to Bryant that he understands until now. This season we shall all be witness to Howard and if he truly has acquired his version of “Mamba Mentality.” In an interview with Shams Charania he mentions that he is letting his ego fade and do whatever a team may ask of him. Either way, Howard should display a different version of himself.
