The soap opera for the New York Giants started since last years losing season and when on March 19, Giants franchise player and one of the best receivers in the league, Odell Beckham Jr., was traded to the Cleveland Browns. They continue to take shots at each other but are slowly moving on.
Then Thursday comes along and another climax is added to the Giants’ drama.
Wide receiver Corey Coleman, who re-signed with the Giants, tore his ACL during training camp yesterday per reports. Giants other receiver Sterling Shepard dislocated his thumb. This is a big blow to Giants depth chart losing Coleman for the season as he was favored to be their number 3 receiver.
“I feel like I’m getting better and better,” Coleman said last month, “and I’m just trying to stay humble and do what they ask of me. I’m happy to be here, and I’m not worried about what happened and didn’t happen in the past. I don’t look back in time. I’m comfortable with this team and in this offense, and I’m excited to show everything people thought I could do and I know I can still do in this league. Nothing’s given to you, and it’s my job to prove it.”
Giants quarterback Eli Manning had high hopes for the receiver who was thrown on to their team mid-season last year.
“It was a tough situation for him last year coming in in the middle of the season just trying to learn this offense when you don’t have a whole lot of time to practice and you just have a game week. I thought last year we did a good job of sprinkling him in there and just kind of making sure he’s doing the things that he was comfortable doing and kind of expanding his role each and every week. I think he’s come in in the offseason, we worked out this offseason a few times. Knowing this is a great opportunity for him, he’s in a place where he had some success last year. He’s going to come in with an offseason and a chance to make the team and be impactful for us. I think he is determined to make this happen and make this work.”
Wouldn’t have been that big of a loss if Beckham was on the team Giants fans argue and bash their general manager Dave Gettleman.
See what else Giants fans and haters are saying after losing Beckham in March, Coleman to a season-ending injury and Shepard dislocating his finger in the first week of training camp.
