Nick Nurse’s first year as head coach of the Raptors was amazing as he helped the team capture its first NBA title. Despite losing Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard in free agency, the city of Toronto is still celebrating and very grateful for Leonard’s contributions.
Nurse was in Las Vegas for Summer League last weekend when Leonard revealed that he’d be taking his talents to the hometown Clippers in free agency. Many thought the Lakers and Raptors would be the two choices but Leonard played the game right and fooled everyone creatively by making them think the Clips had no shot at getting him. ESPN’s Rachel Nichols said that she ran into Nurse at a Summer League game last night and he told her that he was watching a Prince impersonator when he found out Leonard was leaving for LA.
Just ran into Raptors Coach Nick Nurse at Summer League – he told me he was watching a Prince impersonator at the Tropicana when the text came in about Kawhi choosing the Clippers. He said he read it, shrugged and figured he might as well stay & enjoy the rest of the show.

Nurse was watching this impersonator at the Tropicana resort. When he read the news, he just shrugged it off and tried to enjoy the rest of the show. When you’re in Vegas, you can’t let anything throw your mood off. Props go to Nurse on still enjoying himself. The Raptors should still be in the playoff mix in the East in 2019-20.
