The Mets are in the news for the wrong reasons again.
After the Phillies scored five runs in the in the ninth inning off of closer Edwin Diaz and reliever Jeurys Familia to lose 7-2 at home Friday night, general manager Brodie Van Wagenen assembled a coaches meeting.
The New York Post reported that he lashed out at coaches before picking up a chair and throwing it.
Sources say he then told manager Mickey Callaway to go conduct his
“f—king press conference”
To which Callaway did without any indication of the previous events.
When reached by phone on Saturday, Van Wagenen did not confirm or deny the events but did have this to say:
“We as a staff often meet with coaches and players throughout the course of the season. I am not going to give specifics.”
The Mets have a record of 39-49 and are currently 13 games back of the division leading Atlanta Braves.
