After years of teasing, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be getting its first LGBTQ hero, and it’s going to be Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.
Thompson broke the news during Saturday’s star-studded MCU panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Thompson will reprise her role as Valkyrie in the fourth installment of the Thor franchise, Thor: Love and Thunder.
And spoiler alert for those that haven’t seen Avengers Endgame yet, but Thor named Valkyrie the King of Asgard towards the end of the movie. Thompson touched on Valkyrie’s new role as King when she said,
“First of all, as King, she needs to find her Queen.”
Kevin Feige confirmed to i09 what Thompson teased, and she will indeed be involved in an LGBTQ storyline.
“The answer is yes,” Feige said of Valkyrie having an LGBTQ storyline. “How that impacts the story remains to be seen with that level of representation you’ll see across our films, not in just Thor 4.”
