Slow your roll on the D’Angelo Russell trade rumors.
Well, at least Warriors GM Bob Meyers said so.
Bob Meyers said today for the first time since the sign and trade that brought Russell to the Warriors, that they didn’t acquire the young ex-Nets star just to trade him away.
We didn’t sign him with the intention of just trading him.
It’s a complex thought process to figure out how Russell fits in the Warriors’ plans. While Russell will be able to have the ball in his hands early on while Klay Thompson recovers from a torn ACL, it’s hard to envision Russell on the Warriors beyond this year.
Russell doesn’t fit with what the Warriors believe philosophically on offense and he isn’t any type of elite defender.
Plus add on that the Warriors have to decide on what to do with Draymond Green soon, it all adds up to Russell being shipped out of the new look arena Warriors before he can establish himself.
While we all could be wrong and Meyers wants to play his cards so he can keep Russell AND Draymond, it’s highly likely we see Meyers stay with the Dave Gettleman esque remarks and move Russell to make room for a new Draymond Green extension.
