Ever since his arrival in a trade from the Los Angeles Clippers in February Mike Scott has gained somewhat of a cult status in Philadelphia.
The “Mike Scott Hive” is strong, and Scott always takes time out his day to interact with his fans. This includes even accepting challenges from them.
Scott squared off against Justin Divirgilio in South Philadelphia on Friday. Divirgilio is also the host of the Outlet Pass Podcast and a writer at The Sixers Sense, in a 100-meter race.
When questioned why he would race a fan in the offseason, Scott had a good response for NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Marc Farzetta.
I was just on Twitter, talking my normal s— like I do. Phillies game had a little rainout and I saw this guy rush the field and he got caught by the security. Me being me, I just tweeted, ‘If that would’ve been me, nobody would catch me.’ My guy Justin sent me a DM, said, ‘I’m the guy that caught him. We can set up a race.’ And here we are.”
The race went about how one would expect any race between a professional athlete and an average person would go, and Scott ended up taking the.
One thing is made abundantly clear by this race even happening. Mike Scott wants the smoke.
