Riquna Williams was suspended Tuesday for the incident involving her girlfriend where she was accused of beating her, taking a skateboard to her car, and threatening to shoot the man who broke up the incident 18 times all in front of a child.
Due to the WNBA not having any specific rules for domestic violence, the WNBA Players association is contesting Williams suspension. They don’t feel that she should be suspended because the criminal case isn’t over yet.
“We are disappointed with the league’s actions. There is an ongoing criminal proceeding and in fairness to the player, the league could have and should have awaited its completion before taking any action. Riquna has not had a fair opportunity to fully defend herself. We are immediately filing a grievance and will seek the arbitrator’s review.”
Whether or not the case is closed or not, Williams should definitely be suspended and the WNBA should definitely fix their domestic violence rules.
