While most of the hip-hop world has been praising the decision Lil Nas X made to come out and admit his sexuality a few weeks ago, not everyone is in full agreement that the Old Town Road singer made the correct choice.
Rapper Young Thug went on the record to criticize the young rapper’s decision. Speaking to the level of freedom and scrutiny that artists come under in the current landscape.
A budding superstar that put out the biggest crossover song we’ve seen since the Florida Georgia Line & Nelly “Cruise”experiment of 2012. It’s hard to not think that he may be remembered as one of the young pioneers of this new generation. Having a hip-hop artist openly come out in 2019 on the heels of a smash hit is the perfect way to let people that are currently caught up in the past know that it doesn’t matter what your orientation when you focus on the art, the source really shouldn’t make a difference in what you think.
While Young Thug may have a viewpoint shared by some or even many in the hip hop world. The more artists like Lil Nas X who stay true to themselves and operate without the fear of judgement, the more comfortable the world will be forced to become.
On top of the approach he’s taken to the music world, Lil Nas X has also created one of the most likeable persona’s on the internet, and was just named to the Time magazine Top 25 Most Influential People on the Internet.
If I had to hazard a guess, and I hope I’m correct on this, but Lil Nas X is here to stay.
