The bodies of Barry Bennett, a former NFL player and Long Prairie physical education teacher, and his wife, Carol, were found Wednesday afternoon when a friend went to the home for a welfare check after phone calls and texts had gone unanswered since Tuesday.
The friend discovered Barry Bennett’s body and called 911. Deputies discovered the second body after searching the home.
Todd County Sheriff Todd Och said 22-year-old Dylan John Bennett is a suspect and asked anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact authorities.
On Monday morning, Dylan Bennett was seen driving his car during a bank transaction in which a large sum of cash was withdrawn from the Bennetts’ account, the complaint said.
Carol Bennett’s credit and debit cards were used in Wisconsin, Illinois and Ohio on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Her car was found in Columbus, Ohio; Dylan Bennett had a plane ticket for a flight from Columbus to Cancun, Mexico.
Authorities believe Dylan Bennett was in Mexico on Thursday, based on phone usage.
Bennett, who played football at Concordia College, was a defensive lineman for the New Orleans Saints from 1978 to 1981 and the New York Jets from 1982 to 1988 before a one-game stint with the Vikings.
