John Wall came into the league with a lot of hype and rightfully so. He was the #1 player in the nation coming out of high school. He did one year at Kentucky and was the National Player of the year. John Wall has been and All-Star and the biggest name for a Washington Wizards team. So why are people starting to doubt Wall?
John Wall is a 5-time All-Star and has averaged 20.7 points and 8.7 assists in the NBA. He has also had a number of injuries including rupturing his Achilles’ Tendon last year and missing most of the season. To make things worse Wall has a 4 year $171 million supermax deal, that has taken the Wizards hostage.
People started to call Wall’s contract “the worst contract in NBA history”. In an interview with The Athletic Wall said:
“The only thing I questioned was ‘the worst contract in NBA history.” Wall continued, “That was my lowest point because I was like do I really deserve this money? Did I really earn it?”
Having last season to think John Wall decided to use the criticism as motivation.
To say I have the worst contract in NBA history, that’s all I needed, […] The ones that doubted me on the highest level I don’t speak to because I know my game will do the talking when I get back to playing.”
Wall is still fairly young. Hopefully he can come back strong from his injury and make an effort to save his legacy.
