According to League officials and Mark Maske of the Washington Post, the NFL and Roger Goodell just formed a entertainment partnership with Hip-Hop Mogul and Entrepreneur Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z.
The partnership enables Jay-Z to be in charge of entertainment options for the league. Not only does this partnership involve entertainment options, but it also entails social justice reforms. In addition, the partnership gives Jay-Z’s label Roc-Nation co-producer responsibilities for the Super-Bowl. Does this mean Jay-Z will be performing at the next Super bowl? Roger Goodell, and Shawn Carter both stated, the agreement does not contain a provision for him to perform at the Super bowl.
Goodell continued by stating, according to the Washington Post,
“he was very quick to say, that he does not want this to be about him performing, that it was broader than that; It quickly went beyond that. Do I hope he’ll perform in the Super bowl sometime in the next several years? Yes. But I think we’ll all know if that time comes. He’ll know in particular”
Further the agreement gives Roc-Nation the ability to choose the performers it wants, and also enables Roc-Nation to produce the content it wants.
Jay-Z states,
“I think we have autonomy”
Jay-Z, who has been often recognized for social reform, was recognized recently for hiring lawyers to help free fellow rapper, Meek Mill on charges due to a corrupt witness and Judge who showed biases against Meek Mill, which prevented him from having fair trial.
I think it’s an obvious understatement of how big this is for not only Jay-Z, but the black community. Jay-Z is know to stand for social reform, and economics. He and his wife, Beyonce’ stand by Colin Kaepernick standing for social justice, and equality for minorities. My question for Roger Goodell is what is his proposition and stance on Colin Kaepernick? Will he stand by his new partner Shawn Carter and help employ Kaepernick? I think we all know the answer to this question.
