A lot of times when it comes to professional sports versus the internet. The internet is almost undefeated. On Tuesday night at Miller Park, one of the best and brightest young stars of major league baseball put a big W in the Win Column for professional sports, and a big old L was handed to twitter trolls around the world.
It was announced that the Brewers star would be appearing in the next issue of ESPN’s The Magazine “Body Issue”, which is fair to think of as a pretty cool opportunity to be apart of for any athlete.
Of course there’s always a downer. Every. Single. Time. A twitter user came in with the same boring takes usually given by those with too much time on their hands looking to complain about anything and everything. Roxane J took exception to Yelich being a part of the tradition and expressed her thoughts on the matter, saying it was “distasteful”, and as always came in with the popular “didn’t give a thought about all the young kids that idolize [him] before doing naked photoshoot” – would someone please think of the children!?!
There are many reasons that fans stupidly burn jerseys of star players that spurn them or make them feel disrespected. Gracing the pages of the biggest sports magazine in the world in the buff probably isn’t one of them.
The fun part of these athletes having a presence online and being able to see all the things the world says about them, they can choose to have fun with it when the correct occasion presents itself. After a short tweet back from Christian that simply said “Relax Roxane”, he decided to take it one step further and make a slight change to his walk-up music.
We’ll let you flip the page to watch the walkout for yourself, but to many Christian Yelich fans “Roxanne” has never sounded so good coming out of speakers at the ballpark.
