Will Smith and Jay Z recently announced that they would have a TV series on the way which highlights Emmett Till and his mother following his brutal murder by two white men in Mississippi after he was lied on by a white woman about being whistled at. Till’s mother is Mamie Till-Mobley and she dedicated her life to civil rights following her son’s murder.
According to Complex, the series will be picked up by ABC. This series will officially be titled Women of the Movement. Different women over the course of the Civil Rights Movement will be discussed. The first season season will feature Till-Mobley. Following her son’s murder, Till-Mobley had an open casket at his funeral so everyone could see the severity of what had been done to his body.
Salute to Smith and Hov for using their position to honor woman who’ve made impacts during the decades of the Civil Rights Movement. Till never got the justice he deserved so this series is much needed. Carolyn Bryant, the woman who finally admitted a few years ago to lying about Till whistling at her, is surprisingly alive and well. Till’s mother passed away back in January 2003. The first season’s air date has yet to be revealed.
