An extortion charge by Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu against his cousin, Geourvon Sears, has been dropped.
This according to Ramon Antonio Vargas of NOLA.com.
The charge was dropped after Sears pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of removing his ankle monitor while out of jail on bail.
Sears was arrested in May after he was accused by Mathieu of sending him threatening text messages. Sears had been out on bond, but he cut off his ankle monitor and tested positive for drugs.
Mathieu had accused Sears of attempting to extort him out of millions of dollars after Sears allegedly threatened to accuse Mathieu of sexual assault if he wasn’t paid for his silence.
The former LSU star signed with the Chiefs this off season on a 3-year, $42 million contract.
