The Titans went on the road and got the job done as they beat the Falcons 24-10.
This win was a win that was greatly needed for a Titans team that’s looked sloppy the last 2 weeks. There’s so much to get to in an effort to dissect this game.
But for now, I have 3 keys that led the Titans to a big win on the road.
1. The Titans’ Defense Steps Up In a Big Way
Coming into this game, the Titans defense looked to have a great challenge on their hands. Matt Ryan is still one of the better QBs in the league an the Falcons employ one of the more explosive WR cores in all of football.
But while the Falcons offense had the advantage on paper, the Titans defense didn’t care. Julio Jones was held to only 4 catches and 52 yards receiving. Mohammed Sanu had 9 catches for 91 yards, but didn’t catch a touchdown. Calvin Ridley was held to only 3 catches for 32 yards.
To top it all off, the Titans sacked Matt Ryan 5 times and stopped the Falcons on 4th down 3 times.
It was a great effort all around for this experienced Titans defense.
2. Marcus Mariota Has a Big Day
Marcus Mariota was heavily criticized for his play over the last 2 weeks. He was dropping his eyes in the pocket, missing receivers, not throwing with anticipation, and being a liability on offense.
He checked off all those boxes today.
Mariota played very well from start to finish. He got his big WRs involved early and he didn’t look back.
He started off with a strike to AJ Brown, who did the rest and took it 55 yards for his 1st career NFL touchdown.
