When it rains it pours. That’s a very cliché saying but when it comes to Antonio Brown right now, it fits.
According to Sports Illustrated, a Nike spokesperson said on Wednesday that
“Antonio Brown is not a Nike athlete.”
There was no reason given but after being accused of sexual misconduct twice in two weeks and his ordeal with the Raiders, we can assume that’s why.
Nike has taken down an old shoe of Brown’s but still have his Steelers and Raiders shirts.
This is somewhat very hypocritical given Nike has stuck by athletes like Ben Roethlisberger who has been accused of rape twice, Cristiano Ronaldo who has been accused of rape, and Neymar who was also accused of rape.
Nike didn’t let the case play out to see if Brown was innocent before dropping him. Brown’s accusers didn’t file a police report. Brown has denied it and said one was trying to extort money from him. So why stick by others and not him?
The problem isn’t dropping him, it’s dropping him when they’ve shown to stick by others. If you’re going to do this to one athlete, it needs to be done to all.
