The Jets can’t seem to stay out of the news nowadays.
Franchise quarterback Sam Darnold has mono, Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams has been fined, and now people inside the Jets organization are questioning cornerback Trumaine Johnson’s passion for the game.
New York agreed to an five-year, $72.5 million deal with Johnson and now his commitment is being questioned.
“Of course I love football,” Johnson told the Daily News Wednesday. “I’ve been doing it all my life. I’m passionate about it. It’s my life. It’s not a job to me. I love what I do.”
This train of thinking started last season when Johnson missed five games due to a lingering quad injury. Many believed it was something he could’ve played through.
Head coach Adam Gase is still hopeful things can turn around.
“It hasn’t worked out as well as we needed to,” Adam Gase said. “The good thing is we got a long ways to go.”
Before the season, many believed the Jets would compete for a wildcard spot. However, with an 0-2 start and the Patriots next on the schedule, things aren’t looking bright.
