21-year-old lightweight boxing sensation Ryan Garcia will be featured on DAZN’s Mexican Independence Day Weekend card at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California on Saturday when he faces Avery Sparrow.
Ryan Garcia is the young face of Golden Boy Promotions. He is 18-0, with 15 knockouts, and despite receiving some criticism for his good looks and huge social media following, Garcia trains hard and delivers in the ring.
It appears that Golden Boy is grooming Ryan Garcia to be their next face of boxing. Garcia is currently ranked the #5 lightweight by WBA, the #6 lightweight by WBO and the #11 lightweight by WBC.
The lightweight belts are currently held by much older and more seasoned fighters Vasiliy Lomacheno and Richard Commey. While Garcia is definitely not ready for that type of opposition in this infancy of his career, Avery Sparrow represents a step up in opposition for Garcia. Sparrow has a record of 10-1, with 3 knockouts. Sparrow believes that he is ahead of Garcia, and notes that Garcia’s last fight was against Jose Lopez, who Sparrow “already beat two years ago”
Avery Sparrow is managed by Grammy-Award winning R&B singer Usher. J Russell Peltz has been in his corner advising Sparrow.
The fight can be streamed on DAZN starting at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time/6:00 p.m. Pacific and is followed by a title defense by junior middleweight champion Jaime Mungia.
