Remember the viral video showing a High School wrestler forced under threat of disqualification by the referee of the match? Well, a decision has come down after an investigation by the Division of Civil in New Jersey.
Almost a year after the incident Alan Mahoney, the referee at the center of the alleged act of discrimination learned that he’ll have to look for employment elsewhere for the foreseeable future. The Civil Rights Division in conjunction with the New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association agreed to ban Alan Mahoney for 2 wrestling seasons.
Racial discrimation in the enforcement of the rules of any sports is inconsistent with the spirit of fair play.”

Alan Mohoney is no stranger to controversy, he was accused in 2016 of hurling a racial slur at a fellow referee while at a party.
Although Alan Mahoney received the harshest penalty after the decision, other officials and staff members who failed to step in will also be required to go through racial bias training mandated by the state.
