WWE Champion Kofi Kingston Shares Story of Getting Racially Profiled at an Airport (IG Posts)

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston is preparing for one of the biggest matches of his career as he faces Brock Lesnar next Friday on Smackdown’s premiere on Fox, but Kingston had another hurdle to deal with on the road to that show, getting profiled.

Kingston told the story in a two-part post on his Instagram page. He just finished from doing a panel on behalf of WWE at ad week in New York City and was in the airport on his way to his home in Austin, Texas when he was stopped by an employee on his way to United Airlines Premier 1k entrance that offers several perks for frequent flyers.

The employee asked Kingston where he was going where Kingston answered Austin, Texas, to which the employee pointed to the standard check-in around the corner, not believing that he was a Premier member.

After this interaction, Kingston realized that he been profiled. He was reflecting on what he was wearing (a purple dragon ball z “Frieza” shirt, grey sweatpants and a pair of tie-dye Adidas Ultraboost sneakers).

The employee saw Kingston about 15 minutes later, all smiles and indicated that she might have asked him too many questions, suggesting that she knew she was wrong, but not issuing a formal apology.

The lesson that can be taken away from this unfortunate incident is don’t judge a book by its cover, even if it’s wearing tie-dye sneakers.
