Knicks Season Preview: 2019-2020 Edition

Last night was the NBA tip-off and there were two great games to catch. Granted, the 10:30 PM game might still have you exhausted today. Tonight at 8:30 PM, a new chapter will begin for the Knicks as they’re visiting the team who crushed them back in the 1999 Finals – The Spurs. What can we expect from the Knicks this upcoming season?

37-45, 17-65, 32-50, 31-51, 29-53, and 17-65.

Knicks fans should know what the numbers above mean but for our readers, they are the records the Knicks finished with from the 2013-2014 through the 2018-2019 season. Despite the inconsistency in records, Knicks fans continue to remain loyal… but for how long?

We’re about 9 weeks away from a brand new decade but tonight, the Knicks’ 2019-2020 season is officially underway. The team is pushing almost a decade since they were above .500 (2012-2013, 54-28) season. During this year’s preseason, the Knicks were 1-4. Now, we’re not saying that the team isn’t going to improve drastically this season but you can expect some changes.

Team chemistry is starting to build but still a work in progress. If you look at the box score, the preseason does tell that story but also, the same ending – the Knicks just couldn’t hold on to close it out.

Head coach David Fizdale doesn’t share his starting lineups easily and honestly, can you blame him for not doing so? Fizdale’s intelligence is demonstrated despite the team’s record from last year. This year, he’s on year two of his three-year contract and this is his team now. However, if the Knicks don’t figure it out by the new year, will we see Fizdale returning?

Did we mention RJ Barrett yet? No? Didn’t think so. The rookie is stirring the pot and everyone is eager to see his performance. I still think it’s too early to say he’ll win the ROY award.

Thinking about Fizdale and the way he coaches, Barrett might be limited at first but I don’t expect him to be overused either. Barrett has a lot of terrific qualities and one of those is that he’s a true team player. He knows what he’s coming into and things won’t be fixed overnight — baby steps.

Mitchell Robinson and Kevin Knox are headed to their sophomore season. At this point, I’m conflicted if they’ll be in a slump or, defying all odds.

Here’s what you’ve been waiting for — our predictions and how the Knicks will end.

The playoffs will be missed and they’ll finish at 25-57. They’ll show a lot of toughness out there and who knows, we might just be wrong.

The Knicks season takes off tonight at 8:30 PM ET against the Spurs.
