Actress Gina Rodriguez has issued a second apology from her Instagram page on her using the “N” word from “Ready or Not” by The Fugees. The first apology didn’t seem like she was taking ownership of her actions. This second apology highlights her taking accountability and ownership of her behavior.
Rodriguez states,
“The word I sang carries with it a legacy of hurt and pain that I cannot even imagine,”
Moreover she also stated,
“Watching my own video playing back at me has shaken me to my core. It is humiliating that this has to be a public lesson but it is indeed a much deserved lesson”
Why Gina has a history of this type of behavior towards blackness?
According to Vibe magazine, when the world was taken by storm from all the success the Black Panther was making, Gina tried to make a claim for more Latino actors to be chosen for roles in DC/Marvel films. Her tweet which has been deleted since stated,
“Marvel and DC are killing it in inclusion and women but where are the Latinos?! Asking for a friend…”
A separate incident that demonstrates the same pattern of behavior occured during a interview back in September of 2018. During the interview, entertainment journalist Blogxilla told her and Small foot co-star Yara Shahidi, that Shahidi was such a inspiration to “so many black women”. Rodriguez felt the need to interrupt saying, “so man women” which came off as her trying to expunge the topic of our African American woman.
Months later, she stated that Black woman make more money than other women of color. She even took it a step further on Sway In the Morning giving a “dry cry” apology and stating her father is considered dark skinned in Puerto Rico.
It seems that Gina just doesn’t get it. She has shown in the past that she doesn’t care how she is perceived, until there is a outrage from the black community, and she goes online to air out these fake, dry cry apologies, just to be welcome back with open arms from her white collar superiors. Fool me once shame on you; Fool me twice shame on me. There wont be a 3rd time. Gina your actions clearly reveal what you truly believe in.
