Carl Crawford on If He Knew Megan Thee Stallion Was Signing With Jay Z’s Roc Nation; How He Feels About the Signing and If She’s Still Signed to His Label (Video)

Megan Thee Stallion is a superstar now but during 2017-2018, she was building momentum heavily. She signed to former MLB star Carl Crawford’s Houston-based 1501 Certified ENT label and released projects such as her “Make It Hot” EP in 2017 and “Tina Snow” mixtape in 2018. She blew up this past February after her single “Big Old Freak” took off.

This summer, Megan announced that she signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation label. In a new interview with Dirty Glove Bastard, Crawford revealed how the signing surprised him since he didn’t know about it until social media found out. It turned out to be a management deal and she still signed to 1501 so he isn’t sweating this too

“That’s the industry. Unfortunately for whatever reason, I wasn’t tuned in about it. I had the powers that be, you know, come at me a certain way, and I had to go get J. Prince. Me and J. Prince made a post together before her post, but everybody thinks I did it after and was all upset. At the time I wasn’t even aware of her signing… It was a little strange. I chalk all my mishaps to the industry.”

As far as why he signed Megan, Crawford said he saw rawness in her and she was unique. He added that in Houston, female rappers don’t really embrace their sexually and just want to rap like the men do. In the end, bringing Megan to 1501 was a home run.
