The Lions season is all but over. With a 3-7-1 record and being the last-place team in their division and starting QB Matt Stafford out with a back fracture, it appears like all hopes of getting a playoff spot are lost.
Jeff Driskel is the Lions backup QB, but it appears that they wanted to get some extra insurance, as well, as the team tried to sign journeyman QB Josh Johnson.
One problem. Johnson was drafted in the XFL draft.
This means that the XFL has the ability to block NFL teams from signing Johnson, which according to Adam Schefter, they did.
Johnson was a fifth-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft by the Buccaneers, and he’s bounced around to several NFL teams throughout his career, including the 49ers, Browns, Bengals, Chargers, Jets, Colts, Bills, Ravens, Giants, Texans and Raiders.
If only there were another veteran quarterback in his early 30’s available, maybe one who started a Super Bowl this decade.
