Former Olympian Madiea Ghafoor is on her way to prison after the Kleve District Court found her guilty of attempting to transport 110 lbs. of ecstasy and 2.5 lbs. of methamphetamine.
Back in June, Madiea Ghafoor was stopped in a routine check at German checkpoint where authorities discovered millions of dollars worth of drugs in her possession.
Madiea Ghafoor contends that she didn’t exactly know that the materials she was transporting were Meth or Ecstasy, instead she believed they were performance enhancing drugs meant for herself and other athletes looking for a competitive edge.
The courts didn’t buy the story, but the Dutch Union agreed to look into the claims of doping. Madiea Ghafoor elected not to give any information on her suppliers allegedly out of fear for the safety of her loved ones. She does plan to file an appeal.
8 years is a long time, especially for someone who has not always lived the criminal lifestyle. It’ll be interesting to see if Madiea Ghafoor’s stance on snitching remains the same when all options at her disposal have been exhausted without success.
