Billy Dee Williams will play the role of Lando Calrissian in the new ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,’ film as it will be released on December 20. This is Williams’ return as the character after Donald Glover was Calrissian in 2018’s ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story.’ Prior to Star Wars’ highly anticipated new release, Williams has now come out as gender fluid, according to a new interview with Esquire.
Williams, now 82, is not shying away from feelings in regards to gender identities. He said that he never tried to be anything but himself and describes himself as a “relatively colorful person” who doesn’t take “himself or herself too seriously.”
“You see I say ‘himself’ and ‘herself,’ because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine,” Williams said. “I’m a very soft person. I’m not afraid to show that side of myself.”
As many can imagine, it’s not easy for men to open up about their gender identities as much of society is still very judgemental. At 82, Williams doing this was a very nice move by him that is now getting applauded by many fans on social media. Flip the pages for Twitter reactions to Williams coming out as gender fluid.
