The New Orleans Saints much like the New England Patriots have more questions than answers going into the offseason, both teams have legacy acts at quarterback who are now free agents likely looking to play a bit longer.
The situation in New Orleans, however, is drastically more complicated than that of the New England Patriots who currently don’t have a successor to Tom Brady. Aside from Drew Brees, the Saints have Teddy Bridgewater who went undefeated when called upon to cover for Drew Brees while he recovered from an injury as well as Taysom Hill, the all-purpose fan favorite quarterback.
While it’s unknown whether or not if Drew Brees or Taysom Hill will remain in the Big Easy, the Saints organization won’t need to do any extra digging to find out where Brees backup Teddy Bridgewater would like to be on opening day next season.
Heres what Terry Bridgewater had to say to ESPN when asked about his NFL future:
“Being back in the South, being in this culture and this city- a city that’s gone through a lot, and me as a person, I’ve gone through a lot as well – I feel like my personality, my foundation, it sits well with this city. I’ve been able to mesh well with this team, with this city,”
It will likely take a special situation to pry him away. That would mean a good team that isn’t poised to draft a quarterback (in other words, not the Cincinnati Bengals).
The Dolphins could be a consideration again, after coach Brian Flores started to turn them around this season, but that’s the only if they convince Bridewater that they want to build around and use their three first-round draft picks at other positions.
It’s hard to imagine the New Orleans Saints moving on from Drew Brees if he wants to continue playing, but their overstock of viable replacements at quarterback makes the decision much more challenging. This offseason will one of the most interesting we’ve seen in the NFL for quite some time.
