Tiger Woods has been not only one of the best golfers in the world, but one of the best athletes the world has ever seen. He has accomplished plenty in his illustrious career; but it seems as if he is missing one thing on his long list of accomplishments, The Olympics. Golf is a sport that hasn’t always been in the great games; But in 2016 golf made its return to be once again apart of the Olympics. Tiger was dealing with a back injury for most of that year which closed the door on him appearing in the 2016 Olympic games. With the 2020 games coming this summer Tiger knows this may be his best chance to qualify.
Coming off a Masters Tournament win in 2019, Tiger Woods is now poised more than ever to get himself to Tokyo for this year’s Olympic games. With that being said, a spot in the Olympics is not guaranteed as there are some qualifications needed to attend the games. In order to participate in the 2020 Olympics, Tiger would have to be one of the top four American Golfers that are ranked in the worlds top 15 as of June 22nd; But as of right now he is the seventh-best golfer in the world, and the fifth-best American golfer as reported by The New York Times.
All hope is not lost, considering Tiger has about 5 months to get himself into the games with some very important tournaments taking place in those months such as The Masters, and The PGA Championship. With his focus on the 2020 Olympics, Tiger Woods will first have to perform well in the major tournaments in the first half of the year if he wants to punch his ticket to Japan.
