The Carolina Panthers swept Matt Rhule off his feet, so much so that the New York Giants who had Rhule at the top of their potential coaches list failed to even get a sit down with the former Baylor Football Head Coach.
While the Panthers organization is happy to have secured their guy, David Tepper’s fellow owners are less than thrilled about the implications of this new hire.
The 7 years $60 million dollar contract for Matt Rhule instantly placed him almost near the top 5 of highest-paid coaches in the NFL.
The other 31 owners feel offering such a large contract to a coach coming in from the college ranks without NFL head coaching experience may cause a ripple effect that ends with the owners shelling out more money than in the past.
One coach from the NFC South had this to say regarding Matt Rhule’s contract and how it could change everything,
“Tepper just drove the price of pork up, and I know the owners are pissed.”
Whether or not hiring Matt Rhule will prove to be a wise decision remains to be seen, but rest assured the rest of the league, especially the owners who have a vested interest in the success and or failure of Rhule as a coach will be keeping a close eye on Carolina Panthers organization.
