The problem with High Noon it contained too much common sense opinions on sports and entertainment.
There wasn’t a lot of shouting or hyperbole, just two funny and intelligent guys talking important and fun topics. Sadly, people don’t want that these days. They want the antics, the hot takes and the tomfoolery.
I commend Bo and Pablo for just being themselves, I thought the show was great, but ESPN is throwing them under the bus and blaming it on the ratings.
Here is the statement ESPN made to Sports Business Journal.
“Co-hosts Pablo Torre and Bomani Jones are extremely talented, and they helmed what we believed was a smart and nuanced show,”
“Unfortunately, not enough people agreed with us. We look forward to discussing with them how to best utilize their talents across a variety of ESPN platforms.”
It is sad that just a smart show that doesn’t rely on gimmicks is considered “nuanced” these days.
Both Jones and Torre contracts will be up soon, so we will see if they will be taking their talents elsewhere. For now just expect them to pop up on the numerous ESPN shows that are still on.
