Monique is never afraid to speak her mind on who she has an issue with whether it’s Netflix and now, Oprah. She actress and comedian took to Instagram to voice her frustration with Oprah as she isn’t feeling the fact that she criticized Michael Jackson and Russell Simmons for sexual assault allegations but not Harvey Weinstein.
In regards to Weinstein, Oprah looked at it as “always trying to look at the Rainbow in the clouds, whatever is the “silver lining”. This was said in an interview with Norah O’Donnell on the CBS Morning Show. Oprah was involved in a documentary which targets Simmons but recently backed out of the project as filmmakers wanted to air it early at the Sundance Film Festival.
Regarding Jackson, Monique mentioned how he was in fact acquitted in court. She wonders how Oprah doesn’t support the accusers of Weinstein despite the fact that he has more accusers than Simmons. She noted that the main difference in this situation is skin color.
Monique then started to share personal experiences with Oprah. She explained how she received criticism for not promoting the “Precious” movie enough for Lions Gate, Tyler Perry and at the request of Oprah. Monique defended herself by saying she had a deal with Lee Daniels Entertainment. Perry explained how Monique was right in this situation but didn’t end up publicly speaking up nor did Oprah.
Monique concluded by downplaying Oprah being for black women. Monique says she met Oprah at 16 at a local show in Baltimore when she said she wanted to be just like Oprah when she grew up. Oprah replied by saying “You have to work really really hard.” In the end, she believes Oprah actually made her life harder.
Despite the rant, Monique said she still loves Oprah. We will see if a response is given soon. Flip the page for the letter in the IG post.
