21-year-old Ryan Garcia will return to the ring this weekend versus Francisco Fonseca in a Valentine’s Day DAZN card.
Garcia has a record of 19-0, with 16 knockouts and has been dubbed the Golden Boy of the next generation. Although a high social media following and good looks have brought some suspicion of the validity of Garcia’s boxing career, thus far he has handled everyone put in front of him. Most recently, he had a step-up fight versus a tough Romero Duno, and he rose to the occasion and got an impressive 1st round knockout.
Francisco Fonseca is a game opponent, with a record of 25-2-2, with his two losses coming to Tevin Farmer by unanimous decision in 2018 and to Gervonta Tank Davis by knockout in 2017. Fonseca fought four times in 2019 and got wins over Stanley Mendez, Robin Zamonor and David Bency and a majority decision draw versus Alex Dilmaghani.
After some back and forth between Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy last year, Garcia is now headlining his first major event.
It is notable that the co-main event is former three division world champion Jorge Linares (46-5) vs Carlos Morales (19-4-4). There has been some talk that a Garcia vs Linares fight could be next, should they both win their matchups on February 14, but the fight he really wants is Gervonta Davis.
