LA Wildcats head coach Winston Moss is attributing Sunday’s come from behind victory to rap battles.
Entering week 5 with a 1-3 record, the Wildcats needed to come up with a comprehensive plan for a big win to carry some momentum into the second half of the season. After being down 24-6 at the halfway point of the second quarter, the Wildcats looked to be destined for another long day at Dignity Health Sports Center of missed opportunities culminating with a loss. Instead, they turned things around to notch 20 points and ultimately end the game victoriously with a final score of 41-34.
After last week’s loss to the New York Guardians in week 4, Coach Moss anticipated a turnaround from the team. Making good on his word, the Wildcats notched an impressive victory which Moss attributed to a complete team effort. Speaking to the press post-game, Moss made note of the team’s bonding efforts off the field and how running back Martez Carter was a big part of that.
“We have a bunch of fighters and now they understand how to win,” said Moss. “Now we have to carry this forward into Seattle next week and the rest of the season.”
“Martez Carter gave a little rap demonstration on Friday that was unbelievable. So, we are learning how to work hard and have some fun and as long as we can keep doing that and knowing when to work hard and when we’re off the clock how to have fun, we’ll be moving forward in a positive direction.”
Who knew a few bars could motivate a team to come up with double-digit point production? Coach Moss declined to share the content of Carter’s motivational rap performance.
Quarterback Josh Johnson praised the team for coming together and learning to keep their cool under pressure.
“We had an issue last week where I felt like our team, even myself, lost our poise. That was one of the things we wanted to improve this week.”
Week 6 takes the Wildcats to Washington to face the Seattle Dragons (1-4). The Dragons have been on a 3-game losing streak after defeating the Tampa Vipers in week 2.
