Recently an old conspiracy theory surrounding the two-year break Michael Jordan took from basketball while at the pinnacle of his career.
To date, there has been little to no evidence to back the story, but that hasn’t stopped the speculation to continue over the years.
As the theory goes, Michael Jordan at the request of the league, in particular, the then commissioner of the NBA David Stern, was forced to leave the game of basketball as punishment for sports betting.
The longtime conspiracy also offers a fairly logical reason as to why the true reason for Michael Jordan’s oddly timed departure from the NBA was kept secret from the public, a player of Jordan’s magnitude at the time would have been one of the biggest scandals in sports and possibly US history.
To clear up the confusion with a little inside information was a former teammate of Michael Jordan, Steve Kerr. In a recent interview, he described Michael Jordan’s 2-year hiatus as nothing more than a reset.
If you’re to believe Steve Kerr, there is no conspiracy here, just a simple case of heavy is the head that wears the crown. Winning, according to Steve Kerr, is taxing on a team, so much so that Kerr believes had Jordan stayed with the team instead of leaving the game he may not have won 8 straight as many believe.
While the conspiracy theory that surrounds Jordan’s retirement is much more exciting than the more logical reasons offered by Michael Jordan’s former teammate Steve Kerr, it is highly unlikely had this taken place that it would if remained a conspiracy theory all this time.
