4 of The Biggest Remaining Needs For The Titans & Where Jon Robinson Should Look In Free Agency to Address Them

Titans GM Jon Robinson came into free agency with a plan, and for the most part, its gone smoothly

Robinson’s plan was simple, retain as much of last year’s squad as possible, and add a few outside pieces to his squad as well. Let’s recap some of the work the Titans have done in free agency so far, shall we?

Remaining Needs & Potential Targets

EDGE, CB, IDL, RB2

1. EDGE

While I’m sure the majority of you lost interest and scrolled past the wonderful names of Darius Jennings and Dion Lewis, stick with me, I’ll get to the juicy stuff in a jiffy.

We’re just over 2 weeks removed from the start of the legal tampering period, and the Titans are still in need of a couple more players to fill out their roster. EDGE has been a glaring need for the Titans for a couple of years now, and while the Titans do have a promising piece in Harold Landry, the opposite EDGE spot still needs some attention.

Vic Beasley, the exiled Atlanta Falcon, was given a one year “prove it” sort of deal earlier on in free agency. But he alone, isn’t enough to ease worries about the other EDGE spot opposite Harold Landry. Maybe Mike Vrabel can work some sort of magic and get Beasley going, but if we’re going off history, odds of Beasley tapping into any potential Mike Vrabel magic are rather low.

Plus, the Titans need another pass rusher with more of a physical style, not another speed rusher that doesn’t have a secondary pass rushing plan.

For that reason, I would tend to think the Titans are still scavenging the market for another EDGE rusher.

Let’s dive into some options.

Jadeveon Clowney

It’s a shock that Clowney is still on the market. His tenacity as a run defender, and his still improving arsenal rushing the passer, should have teams lining up at his front door to acquire his services. But we’re now 2 weeks removed from the legal tampering period, and Clowney is still on the market. Could it be due his price tag? Are any potential medical issues holding up a deal? Who knows, that’s what makes it fun!

There’s not been a lot of word on when Clowney might sign a new deal. The only word we can really take with seriousness if Bob Condotta’s of the Seattle Times, who says Clowney might wait until training camp to put pen to paper on a new contract.

Barring some sort of change, it’s seems unlikely Clowney will find himself with a new deal anytime soon.

Markus Golden

Also another pass rusher that’s somehow still on the market. Golden’s 10 sacks last season were the most he’s had since his 12.5 sack season in 2016, so you’d expect some sort of concrete interest by now. But Golden’s known market hasn’t been the best, maybe due to his pricey demands.

Golden is the type of pass rusher that you want opposite Harold Landry. He isn’t much of a speed rusher, rather he’s a bit more of a power rusher off the EDGE, using those massive hands of his to wreak havoc on offensive tackles everywhere.

Golden won’t get paid the same amount as Clowney, but he isn’t cheap either.

This is another situation that has me stumped, leaving me with no sort of timetable on when Golden will sign his next contract.  The waiting game, we hate it don’t we?

Other Options For EDGE Rusher
