Hall of famer Quarterback Warren Moon recently spoke on the obstacles preventing former Panthers QB Cam Newton from still being signed to an NFL franchise with TMZ sports stating Cam would be a great fit in Jacksonville.
Moon telling TMZ,
“They have Gardner Minshew there as their starter, who is not really a solidified starter in this league yet”;
“So, I still think there’s an opportunity for maybe Cam to go to a Jacksonville and be a starter there.”
Moon is right. Minshew who started 14 games last season, missing 2 went (8-6) as a starter in arguably the worst division in football; Nevertheless he did throw 21 touchdowns to just 6 interceptions. Minshew isn’t terrible, and doesn’t necessarily turn the ball over, but is he a franchise, game changer the Jaguars need to facilitate the offense permanently? remains to be seen.
In addition, when asked would Cam be a good fit in New England Moon revealed how he doesn’t think Cam would fit with Belicheck’s coaching style due to his flashiness as a player.
What Obstacles are still preventing Cam Newton from being signed?
As Moon alluded to, health is the pivotal factor here. Cam has been featured in numerous training videos via his IG page, showing him demonstrating numerous vigorous workouts showing he is still healthy and very capable of stepping on the field right now delivering results, regardless of the landing spot. Behind a formable offensive line, and several weapons Cam is still capable of being a top 10 QB when healthy in this league; Top 5 dual threats in this league. With the coronavirus pandemic going on, teams aren’t able to get their own doctors to evaluate Cam from their own perspective. Funny thing is these same teams are taking game film from colleges and potential pro prospect in this years NFL draft. Quite interesting.
Newton has also voiced his opinion in the past over Donald Trump’s stance over players displaying protest over national anthem protest.
Cam calling Trumps comments “unacceptable“. Jaguars owner Shahid Khan who once stood in arms with players demonstrating protest of police brutality, and minorities being mistreated unfairly by law enforcement authorities has been hypocritical admitting to donating over a million dollars to Trumps campaign. So you have a owner in Jacksonville who supports Trump and what he stands for and a QB who stands for minorities and thinks Trumps comments were indeed unacceptable revolving majority around minorities standing up for their economic freedoms peacefully. The likelihood of this being a match in paradise for Cam is unlikely, but could still happen.
