Former NFL MVP Cam Newton, who is yet to be signed by a team (Yes that includes a list with Andy Dalton, Jameis Winston), is re-shifting his focus on not ruling out an option of being a back-up QB according to ESPN’s Ian Rapoport.
It was rumored weeks ago that Newton wouldn’t even consider a job unless it was starting for a franchise but has since then recanted that philosophy.
Newton does want to be a starter and should be.
What are his choices as of right now?
Option 1. Take a back-up role with a contender and right situation
Option 2. Wait and see game; Meaning wait and see if a QB goes down due to injury and fill in immediately. If this was to indeed happen Cam would certainly be the most sought after QB in recent memory.
Ultimately, with his future being uncertain at the time, Newton is reconsidering his options.
I’m sure Cam could start for at least 10 NFL franchises today if healthy, not being a backup.
